An Interview with Silvia Peltoniemi – Sales Manager – at Atexor OY
Posted on: 15.11.2018As part of the continuation of Atexor’s interview series – we have taken the opportunity to speak with another key member of our growing team to find out more about her role with Atexor as well as what she likes to do in her free time. This time, we introduce you to – Atexor OYs Sales Manager – Silvia Peltoniemi.
How long you have been in Atexor team?
I have been working with Atexor for over five years, joining the company back in 2013. I was hired during the merger of Centaurea and Mica Elektro initially as a Sales Assistant and I am delighted that I have grown with the company and progressed further to now hold the role of Sales Manager in the business.
Could you tell us more about your current role in the CSS team?
My current job title is Sales Manager – personally I would prefer to write “amazingly astonishing solution finder” to my business card but I don’t think that’s appropriate!
In a nutshell, my job is to listen and solve problems, as well as finding and developing customer relationships to ensure we provide the best possible Ex-lighting solutions.
Managing projects, understanding the customer and creativity are the key elements for success in this job. I work closely with our R&D and production team to guarantee the best practices from our end.
And what about yourself?
I am really social person – hyper social even – and really enjoy interacting with people. Working everyday with people – both with colleagues and customers – keeps the social part of myself satisfied.
A basic human need is to do meaningful contributions – and that is exactly what I try to achieve on a day to day basis. My job is to find the safest, most reliable and efficient solutions for lighting in hazardous areas and I really do – along with the rest of the team – ensure that this is achieved for each individual customer, no matter how big or small. A happy customer to Atexor is a win for all of us on a whole.
What do you enjoy most about working for Atexor?
I enjoy that Atexor is one big team, and a great one at that! One of our many strengths of the business is our ability to work together and co-create solutions that meet the needs of our customers.
Throughout the business – from the bottom to the top – there is an everlasting respect that each employee has for each other. It goes without question that your voice is heard and the management will truly listen – which is such a brilliant thing within an organization of our size.
The fact that the Ex-lighting world is full of standards, regulations and directives, encourages us to be creative in these circumstances, which is a challenge, but I love it. The business is always open to new ideas that will benefit the company which is also a quality I possess.
Where have you previously worked before joining Atexor?
I worked at ABB at the beginning of my career. I was just graduating from my degree in marketing when I was hired as a Sales Assistant with the global organization. Through working with a business of this calibre, I now hold great experience on how large organisations work and this is certainly something which I have transferred at Atexor. When joining ABB I was young and enthusiastic, learning as much as I could at the time. I now feel like through working with Atexor I have gained a lot more experience in the B2B world and my skillset is a lot more rounded now.
What skills do you bring to the team?
I would class my positivity and optimistic attitude as a real skill. I try to keep the morale high within the warehouse and ensure everyone is okay, providing help wherever necessary.
Another skill of mine would be my good spirit and creative mind set. I like to always think of solutions and other ways that we can carry out tasks, improving what we do on a day to day basis. This way, as a team, we are able to use the most effective solutions resulting in the best possible outcomes.
Please can you tell us about your MBA Studies?
Funny you should ask – I said six years ago I would never go back to school again after graduating. Now I am taking my Master’s degree in Business Growth Management at Laurea University of Applied Sciences in Southern Finland. So never say never!
I feel like you need to stay up to date with the constantly changing world and have an understanding that people will never learn everything. I feel like what I am currently learning will be implemented into the business to ensure that best practice is adhered to at all times.
I am also lucky that the Atexor management has supported and encouraged my decision to continue on with my studies and have seen the benefits in their employee’s continuous professional development.
What have you learnt so far from your studies?
I’ve learnt the bigger picture and gained a total understanding how businesses are run. For example, what to develop at that time and how to do that most effectively. I also tend to look more into the future and focus on how I will be able to progress with Atexor and drive the company’s ambitious plans forward.
My studies have also helped me as a person. I feel as though I have grown and ultimately become more confident in myself, my ideas and my actions, which I find equally as important to the learning side of my studies.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Well, my focus lies within my studies however, if I have time I’ll go for a run as I love Finnish nature. Or a hard workout at the gym gets me out of the hectic life for a bit!
It is not easy to find a balance in life when working full time and studying at the same time. However, I always find time for my family and friends and this is something that is very important to me. They are my biggest support system and help a lot when it comes to balancing my job, studies and leisure time.
